The Highlander emphasizes the true essence of the mullet..."Business in the Front and Party in the Back". Waylan, the bearer of the Highlander, began his mullet journey in July 2022 after seeing the Mullet Champ Facebook page, in conjunction with many local teenagers sporting them around our beautiful Mainstreet DeLand. Waylan sees a unique opportunity to bridge business with pleasure and has been an advocate of professionalism through eccentric dress and style. As the Past President of Mainstreet DeLand, the current Vice President of the DeLand and Greater West Volusia Chamber of Commerce, a COO for a local non-profit, a Rotarian, and Elk, and the Chairman of many other boards in the community and speaker on various issues in the community in, he has always pushed the envelop for breaking the various stigmas associated with hair, dress, tattoos and piercings, and more. Adding the Highlander to his style and flow was the clear and obvious route to complete the vision of redefining professional attire and style. His hope is to bring the Mullet Champ live contests to his town in DeLand, FL. Waylan is passionate about serving the community and creating lasting relationships for a town in which generations to come will dine, shop and be entertained. He enjoys beer, specifically IPA's (snob), including the Florida Man IPA, cooking and BBQ's, finding junk to turn into functional yard art, bon fires, tattoos, philosophy and writing By-laws and policy for local non-profits. The Highlander connects the community in all aspects working across government lines, religious affiliations, civic responsibility, the business and education sectors, and equally important...the FUN to be had in the midst of all business transactions. The photos are courtesy of Canovas Photography and the name "Highlander" brilliantly chosen by their son and dear friend, Jeremy Canova a local artist and restaurateur. Waylan, his style, and the Highlander delivers shock to some, but inspiration to all.
