Cory Ferris – The Dude

Kalispell Montana

I got my bachelors degree and pursued my dream job that got me from night shift diesel tech all the way up to an engineer on some pretty cool projects. Unfortunately as an engineer I found it to be nothing but a rat race amongst nerds trying to be the smartest dork in the room. I found a position back to being a specialized technician which I was the best at in the company and got me out of the rat race without losing being apart of the projects I was passionate about. This new role got me out of slacks and button ups and into a mechanic outfit that had my name on the shirt. My engineer friends made jokes that I was too dumb to remember my name so they put it on my shirt. I'm all for fun and jokes and took it and ran with it. I embraced having fun and being goofy again while being smart when I needed to be with engineers. During all this "taking myself less seriously" time I decided to grow my hair out again. I had long hair in highschool and my mom has a photo of me when I was about 5 in a white tux on a white trike on a white stage with a mullet. I've always loved that photo so that year in 2019 I started growing a mullet again inspired by Patrick Swayze in the movie Road House. I set myself 3 goals I have to achieve before I'm allowed to cut my hair. 1) grow a mullet that is epic and recognizable. 2) get a high up job with an interview that has the mullet in full view. 3) get a date with a hot chick worth cutting it for. As the mullet grew it helped me grow into a new man who enjoys life and having as much fun as possible. Covid made me lose my dream job and ultimately forced me to move away from my home town back to Montana which I fell in love with while going to college in Montana. While I've been here for over 2 years the hair has gotten so much attention my friends dont believe me. I get asked for photos all the time including recently a lady asked to kiss my cheek while her husband took the photo. One guy posted a picture of us on his Facebook saying he had drinks with the "mullet king" and my coworkers saw the post and laughed that I'm like a local celebrity. One time the sight of my mullet stopped a guy who was trying to fight customers at my work when he saw me and said "nice mullet" then went right back to trying to fight people. That was a weird one. One of my proudest moments was my favorite blue grass band saw me in the crowd and praised my mullet. I have tons of stories that my mullet has gotten me into, weird and cool, and I can say I've definitely achieved my first 2 goals with my mullet but #3 has been difficult because 70% of the people who like my hair are dudes. 25% are women who are taken or married but wish their boyfriend or husband had hair like mine and the 5% who are single women are usually... interesting. I've dated women who were close to being worth cutting it off for but not 100% sure. On the other hand my hair grows fast and I've considered donating my hair to Wigs for Kids and I can grow another shoulder length mullet in a year so I'm considering it for the cause but I would be honored to win this competition and would consider that worth substitution for goal #3.
