I've had long hair--all one length, down to about the middle of my back most of my life. In Fall of 2020, I got covid and pneumonia simultaneously and was hospitalized for 7 days. About 90 days after I got home from the hospital, my hair started falling out. The doctors said it was a result of my body going into survival mode to keep me alive. No one on either side of my family has ever gone bald, and I'll be damned if it was gonna start with me. Thanks to some steroids and topicals from a dermatologist, my hair started to grow back better than ever. As part of the process, I had to cut my hair shorter than it had been in quite some time. I was getting married in just a couple months. I'd always done Willie Nelson style braids for formal occasions, but wasn't going to have enough hair in time to pull it off for the big day. My hairdresser said "you might have enough length to pull off a mullet". So we went for it, and I've never looked back. I love it--I get compliments from strangers on a regular basis, and I can drive my truck with the windows down without hair blowing in my face or mouth. It's a way of life now, and I'll never wear my hair any different.
