Three years ago when Elias lived in Kentucky, he got tired of all the kids teasing him in school for his long blonde hair telling him he looked like a girl. So, he asked his dad to shave the sides of his hair and keep the back. Elias didn't even know what a mullet was. Although, he knew that he loved his long hair. Some may call it a mullet, but to Elias, this is his pride. Last year when we moved to Colorado Springs, he found out The National Mullet Competition was being held at the Colorado State Fair in Pueblo, CO. We were too late to enter then; however, he made it his dream to enter the competition this year. This is all he talks about. Everyone in his school and community, knows him as the sweet kid with the mullet and Straight A's. We are a military family and it's amazing how he inspires other children and adults to want a mullet. He is one of six kids, and none of his siblings have ever wanted such a consistent hairstyle. Elias' mullet is apart of our family story.
