I grew up in Oklahoma. I struggled with feeling like I didn't belong because my family was of Mexican and Salvadoran descent. I tried hard to fit in, so I watched a lot of WWE and Nascar, shows that my classmates got me into. My idols when I was a kid included Jeff Gordon, Shawn Michaels, and Eddie Guerrero, all people who, at one point or another, rocked stylish mullets. They looked so cool and confident that I wanted to be like them! But I wasn't allowed to cut my hair in that style because it wasn't traditionally acceptable for women in Hispanic culture.
Now that I am older, my mullet is a way to embrace all parts of me, both the feminine and the tomboy. It's a way to honor my Latino roots and my Oklahoma upbringing! Since joining the mullet community, I have met many wonderful people from all walks of life who make me feel so seen and accepted.
